Install StarGit and create your first repository

This onboarding tutorial walks through installation, first launch, and first repository setup. It is the recommended starting point for all new StarGit users.

Step 1: Download StarGit

Choose your operating system and download the latest published build.

Step 2: Install and launch

  • Windows: Extract the .zip package and run StarGit.exe.
  • macOS: Open the .dmg package and drag StarGit into Applications.
  • Linux: Mark the AppImage executable and launch it.
  • Complete first-run setup and validate your repository root path.

Step 3: Create your first repository

Use this flow for a clean first commit in StarGit.

Open Dashboard

Navigate to your repository workspace and choose New Repository.

Set name and path

Define repository name, local path, and default branch.

Create repository

Initialize and validate status in the graph and status panel.

Commit and sync

Create your first commit and push to your configured remote.
